How does it work
Frequently Asked Questions
🌱 Getting started
What is Wochenbetter?
An app that lets families easily coordinate support from trusted people during the postpartum period. You create a circle, post tasks in it, and your helpers voluntarily take on whatever fits them right now.
Do I need an account?
Yes. You sign up with your name, email and a password – for families and helpers alike. No email confirmation is required; you can log in right after registering.
What does Wochenbetter cost?
Nothing. The app is free – no subscriptions, no payment features, no hidden costs.
What roles are there?
Two: parents (create and manage the circle, tasks and members) and helpers (take on tasks and offer help themselves). Parents can promote helpers to parents and vice versa.
👪 Circles
What is a circle?
A private space for a family and its helpers. Only invited members can see what happens inside.
Can I be in more than one circle?
Yes. You can create several circles or join several. If you have more than one circle, a circle switcher appears at the top. Your last selected circle is remembered.
Can I leave a circle again?
Yes, anytime via the circle settings. Only the last remaining parent cannot leave. Parents can also remove helpers from the circle.
🔗 Inviting & joining
How do I invite people?
Via an invite link or a QR code. You can share the link, and the QR code is simply scanned.
What if a link ends up in the wrong hands?
Parents can regenerate the invite code at any time – the old link then becomes invalid.
How does joining work?
It depends on a setting in the circle:
– Auto-accept on: whoever joins is in right away.
– Auto-accept off: joining becomes a request – the parents approve or decline.
What if I am not logged in when I open the link?
No problem – the app remembers the invitation, you log in or register, and are then taken to join automatically.
✅ Tasks
How do I create tasks?
Parents create tasks with a title, an optional description, a priority and a time. There are three types:
– One-time – without a fixed date
– With date/time – scheduled
– Recurring – on a regular basis
What does the priority mean?
Tasks can be marked as critical, important or nice to have – so everyone can see what is most urgent right now.
How does “recurring” work?
Two modes:
– One person takes on the whole series, or
– each individual occurrence is freely claimable, so each one can be taken on by a different person.
How do helpers take on a task?
With a tap on “Take on”. The task moves from open to claimed, and the parents are notified. A claimed task can also be released again.
What is the status flow?
Open → claimed → completed → archived. Completed tasks can be archived and restored if needed.
What does the heart mean?
Parents can say thank you for a completed task with a gratitude heart – once per task. The helper receives a little appreciation notification.
🏷️ Categories & who sees what
What are categories?
Parents can sort tasks into categories (with an emoji icon and a custom order). Defaults: cooking, cleaning, shopping, childcare, other. Your own categories can be created, renamed or deleted at any time.
Can I exclude certain helpers from certain categories?
Yes – this is a deliberate feature. For each helper, parents can hide individual categories. That way, for example, only close confidants see sensitive tasks, while others only see the categories meant for them.
What is the default setting?
Visible. A category is visible unless it has been explicitly hidden. Tasks without a category are always visible to all helpers. Parents see everything anyway.
🤝 Offerings
What is an offering?
Helpers can proactively offer help – instead of only waiting for tasks. An offering describes what (for example cooking, errands, childcare, lifts) and when (date or time window, also recurring).
What happens with an offering?
The parents are notified. If they accept the offering, it automatically becomes a task assigned directly to the person who offered. An offering can also be marked as matched automatically when the person takes on a fitting task.
💬 Messages
How do messages work?
There is one chat per task – for quick coordination right where it belongs. No cluttered group chat.
Who can write?
Parents on every task in their circle; helpers on the tasks they have taken on.
Do I see new messages?
Yes – unread messages are shown with a counter and arrive in real time.
🔔 Notifications
What am I notified about?
Among other things: new tasks, tasks claimed, released and completed, new messages, new and accepted offerings, join requests and new members, gratitude hearts, as well as gap alerts (when urgent tasks are still open shortly before their due time).
Through which channels?
Three channels: in the app, by email and as a push notification (when enabled).
Can I customize this?
Yes. Notifications can be fine-tuned per circle. Email notifications can be turned on and off entirely in your profile.
📱 Installing the app
Can I install Wochenbetter like an app?
Yes. Wochenbetter is a progressive web app – you can add it to your home screen via the browser and use it like a normal app.
How do I enable push notifications?
On your first visit (on mobile) a prompt appears. You allow notifications once in the browser – after that you receive pushes even when the app is closed. You can disable this again in the settings.
Does the app work offline?
To a limited extent: without a connection an offline page appears. Current data needs a connection for data-protection reasons.
🌍 Language & profile
Which languages are available?
German (default), English, French and Spanish. Switch via the language picker; your choice is saved to your profile.
What can I change in my profile?
Name, profile picture and language setting. Your email address is shown.
I forgot my password.
Via “Forgot password” you receive a link by email and can set a new password.
🔒 Account & privacy
How do I delete my account?
In the settings via “Delete account”. For safety you have to type “DELETE”. Your account and all associated profile data are removed completely.
Who can see my data?
Only members of your circles – content is isolated per circle. Wochenbetter is designed as a private, protected space.
